Storm Closings

The library will make every attempt to remain open through inclement weather. The library will be closed, however, if it is difficult to clear the bridge, driveway, walkways and sidewalk, or if conditions are cause for safety concern to staff and patrons. Closings will be posted on the library’s Facebook page and on local media outlets.

Library Cards

In order to get a library membership, the following must be presented at the library:
– Valid photo ID
– Proof of residency (tax bill, utility bill, hunting/fishing license, driver’s license, car registration, etc.) which shows a physical (street) address.

If your current valid photo ID shows your current physical address (not just a PO box), it is all you need to sign up for a library card. Please ask a librarian if you need to make special arrangement to get a library card.

Children under 18 may sign up for a library card with their legal parent or guardian. The child’s legal parent or guardian assumes all responsibility for materials checked out by minor patron.

Library membership is free to all residents of Wilton, East Wilton, East Dixfield and Dryden. There is a yearly library membership fee of $20 per household for all nonresidents.

Loan Periods

Unless otherwise stated, all library materials are loaned for two weeks. All library materials may be renewed unless another patron is waiting for them. If an item is on hold for another patron, it cannot be renewed. After an item is two weeks overdue, contact will be made with the patron to facilitate return of overdue items. Invoices for unreturned overdue items will be mailed if items are not returned promptly, and patrons may lose library privileges. Restitution must be made for lost or damaged material or destruction of library property.

Renewals

Borrowed materials may be renewed by phone or in person for another loan period unless materials are on reserve for another patron. Any library book or material which is in circulation may be reserved for you.

Returning Materials

There is a book return box at the side entrance of the library. Any and all materials can be returned via the dropbox at any time – even when the library is closed. Both current and overdue material may be returned in the box.

Gifts and Donations

Gifts of books and materials are accepted for use at the discretion of the library staff. (Materials not used in the library are put into one of our annual book sales.) Examples of donations we accept are: hardcover and paperback books, DVDs, magazines, and jigsaw puzzles. Our limited budget makes most donated materials welcome. Please talk to a librarian about any nontraditional donation items, we’re happy to think about new ideas. We can place a special label on the material identifying the donor or “In memory of…” as you wish. Unsolicited donations should never be left at the library without first speaking to a librarian. Donations we do not accept include long outdated material, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, magazines and material not in like-new condition.

The Wilton Free Public Library Board of Trustees welcome memorial and endowment donations and other arrangements to insure the future of our library. Please contact the library to discuss your contribution.

Be on the lookout for our mailed Annual Appeal, although gifts are gratefully accepted year-round and can be made easily online, via the mail, or in-person. Please feel free to call or e-mail if we can assist you.
