We are opening for patron visits!

115954666_10158621180951354_2720991272061579668_oSome exciting news! Starting Tuesday, August 4th, the library will be open for patron visits. You can browse for the books you want!

Things will, of course, look a bit different. Furniture will be rearranged or missing, there will be lots of signs on walls and floors marking six feet distances, toys, games, puzzles and stuffies will not be seen in the children’s room, and everyone will be wearing masks. We will miss the lingering and visiting with staff and other library patrons, but the library will be – for now – a place primarily to retrieve materials to take home with you. Visits will be limited to half an hour. There is a limit to five patrons in the library at one time – so there may be times when there is a wait to get into the building. All these changes and precautions have been put in place to keep our community healthy and happy. We thank you for respecting the new standards and guidelines!

For the first two weeks of August, the library will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10:00-2:00, Wednesday 3:00-7:00, and Saturday 9:00-12:00. We will reevaluate these hours as we move forward.

We will still be offering WFPL To-Go! for those not wanting to come into the building. You can continue to order materials via Facebook Messenger, by emailing director@wilton-free.lib.me.us, or by calling the library at 207 645-4831.

Hope to see you soon!

Wilton Free Public Library: Library To-Go starting June 2!

Introducing WFPL To Go: It’s like ordering takeout for dinner, but with books! Next week we will be jumping into a new method of getting materials to patrons. It won’t look exactly like the library service we’ve offered for 119 years, but we’ll do our best to get books and magazine and DVDs and audiobooks out to patrons who are craving new materials.

Step one: look at the menu: our catalog can be found at https://wiltonfree.biblionix.com/catalog/
(Don’t know exactly what you want? We can help! You want a book about frogs? A mystery set in Canada? A book on how to bake chocolate chip cookies? A book with a blue cover? Just ask! We are always happy to make suggestions! We’re librarians, it’s what we do!)

Step two: place your order: send an email to director@wilton-free.lib.me.us, leave a message for us at 207 645-4831 or send us a message via Facebook Messenger. Library staff will confirm with you when your order is ready for pickup so be sure to include your name and contact information with your order.

Step three: pick up your materials using our contactless method near the front entrance of the library. You will see a canopy set up in the walkway; your order will be labeled with your initials and placed at the end of the table as your approach; the materials will already be checked out to you so there is no need to present your library card; pick up your order and you’re all set to enjoy your new library materials.

When you come to pick up new materials you will also see totes for returning materials. Please place any returns you have in these totes. All returned materials will be quarantined before returning to our shelves for recirculation. If you want to return materials to the library outside of our “open” hours, please use the permanent bookdrop located at the side entrance to the library.

The library’s hours for next week will be Tuesday, June 2nd 10:00 – 2:00, Wednesday, June 3rd 3:00 – 7:00, Thursday, June 4th 10:00 – 2:00, Friday, June 5th 10:00 -2:00, and Saturday, June 6th 9:00 – 12:00. We will adjust these hours going forward. Please check back for posted hours.
We will adjust these hours going forward. Look for the latest hours here, on our website and posted on the doors of the library.

Library Closure Update

Following Governor Mills’ Executive Order as of April 29th, Wilton Free Public Library remains physically closed.

Libraries were not identified as a service sector in phase one of the state’s reopening plan, but a lot of planning is being done. We continue to actively follow national and state guidance for libraries. We hope to be able to offer limited services to the public in a safe manner, tentatively sometime in June. Library service upon reopening will look different than it has in the past – we will keep you updated. The safety of our staff and our community will continue to be our primary consideration during this time. We thank you for your patience and understanding. Please continue to keep library material at home.

We miss you!

Unless you’re the patron who has War and Peace signed out, you’ve probably run out of physical library books to read. We feel you! And we’re sorry! There’s nothing we like more than putting books in the hands of readers but we just can’t do that right now.

Remember that the CloudLibrary is always open for ebooks and audiobooks. They’ve also added more than $40,000 in shared titles in the past week. If you need help accessing this resource, feel free to send us a message.

We will reopen as soon as it’s wise to do so. Keep checking back for information, virtual storytimes, book reviews and other tidbits. Also, feel free to share what you’re reading – we love hearing from our patrons!

Library Closing Information

With advice from the Maine CDC and our fellow libraries across the state, and in line with the closure of RSU9 schools, Wilton Free Public Library will be closed until further notice. Our hope is that we will be able to reopen on Tuesday, March 31st. We will reevaluate as necessary.

Please keep the library materials you have until we are open again. We have extended all due dates until after this closure. (Materials that have been returned via the dropbox at the side entrance of the building will, of course, be properly cleaned and processed before going back on our shelves.)

Though our physical building will be closed, online resources will still be available. Check back for online storytimes, connection to shared resources, and, perhaps, the occasional funny meme.

Library voicemail and email inboxes will be checked regularly. If you have specific questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out. Email should be sent to director@wilton-free.lib.me.us. Voicemail can be left at 207 645-4831.

Again, we plan to reopen on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, and we will post any change to those plans on our website, our social media accounts, and at the entrances to the Library.

Thank you for supporting Wilton Free Public Library!
